A fit, supple body can be developed through the practice of postures (asanas). Working on all the bodily systems – toning muscles, stimulating the circulation thus improving overall health. The benefits are not only physical; as the postures are mastered and techniques introduced for relaxation and breathe control, you will find that Yoga has the power to calm the mind, increase concentration and give the ability to cope with tension.

The practice of Yoga is for everyone – weak, strong, old or young. Yet, in the many years of BKS Iyengar’s experience he has found that even healthy individuals find some poses difficult to sustain. Some asanas are also too complicated to attempt without help. With the use of props created by BKS Iyengar, the practice of asanas is easier, less tiring and more enjoyable.

The props help to sustain the practice whilst conserving energy, balancing both body and mind, actively as well as passively. These props are unique to Iyengar Yoga and were created to allow for both action and relaxation simultaneously.

NOTE: The correct use of the props should be demonstrated and taught by a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher.
